Rescuing dogs is often described as a mix of sadness and relief—a sentiment deeply felt in Gregory the Beagle’s remarkable journey to safety and happiness.

When faced with the heartbreaking reality of abandoned and neglected animals, the initial emotion is pure sorrow. Yet, there’s profound relief when a rescued dog, like Gregory, finds security and a promising future with a caring individual.

A Beagle’s Overflowing Joy

Gregory’s story nearly took a tragic turn when he faced euthanasia due to costly medical issues. Just two days before this fate, Joe Kirk intervened, saving Gregory’s life. Joe and his wife, Schenley, operate the Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing refuge and foster care for neglected animals in Findlay, Ohio.

Schenley shared on Facebook: “Gregory is one thankful and appreciative Beagle! He KNOWS he is SAFE! He is Heartworm Positive and will be going through treatment, but he knows he is in good hands! We will get him healthy and provide him all the love he so deserves and a wonderful future!”

Gregory’s Fresh Start

Under the care of the Kirks, Gregory received immediate veterinary attention for his heartworm disease. Soon after treatment, Gregory was listed for adoption—and it didn’t take long for a loving family to step forward. Before he knew it, Gregory found himself in his forever home, enjoying the company of his new Beagle sibling.

Reflecting on their mission, Schenley beautifully expressed: “We are often asked how many dogs we have saved. The answer that always comes to mind is, we have saved one more. One more dog is safe and will have all of the love and respect that they are so deserving of. One more dog will be properly fed and receive needed veterinary care. One more dog will have a loving forever home. There is no better feeling and nothing in life that is more fulfilling.”

Gregory’s story is a poignant reminder of the profound impact of kindness and the endless possibilities to aid those in need.
