When a dramatic rescue unfolded on television, it captured hearts far and wide. A courageous officer saved a stray dog from the icy waters of Lake Michigan, and the heartwarming twist? That’s only the beginning of this incredible story.
The white dog, now affectionately named Michigan, was struggling to stay afloat after slipping through the lake’s ice. As his situation became dire, a passerby quickly dialed 911, prompting a swift response from local police who bravely pulled him from the freezing water.
While Michigan received care for hypothermia from the Wisconsin Humane Society, the search for his original owners yielded no results. However, the outpouring of support was overwhelming, with numerous people stepping forward to offer him a new home.
After reviewing hundreds of adoption applications, the Wisconsin Humane Society chose Brenda Thompson to be Michigan’s new mom. Brenda was so moved by his story that she rushed to the shelter immediately after seeing his rescue on the news.
“I was here pretty much every day since I saw him on TV,” Brenda told TMJ4. “I threw on some clothes and came straight over. I couldn’t wait to meet him.”
Now officially adopted, Michigan is set for a fresh start. Brenda is excited to give him the love and care he deserves, starting with a long, leisurely walk. “He’s got his entire bed set up, complete with toys and bowls. I’m sure we’re about to embark on a wonderful friendship,” she shared.
In addition to her new furry friend, Brenda’s home already includes a black Lab she adopted after Hurricane Katrina, giving Michigan a new sister to bond with.
Catch the moment Brenda arrives at the shelter to bring Michigan home, and share this heartwarming story with your friends and family!
