For years, Domenic Biagini has been delighting his followers with incredible videos of whales on instagram, offering a rare and intimate look at these majestic giants of the sea. But recently, Biagini decided to share this awe-inspiring experience with someone very special—his Labrador, Fin.
On a remarkable day out on the boat with his co-captain, Erica Sackrison, Biagini took Fin along for a whale-watching adventure. They were lucky to encounter a group of around 50 blue whales. As the boat drifted silently, the stage was set for an unforgettable moment.
When Fin spotted the enormous back of a blue whale breaking through the water, he was visibly mesmerized. The sheer size of the whale seemed to leave him in a state of disbelief. Fin stood up, his eyes wide with wonder, as he watched the whale breathe through its blowhole. Then, he turned to Biagini, looking as if to say, “Can you believe this?”
“[The] dog is like, ‘Are you guys seeing this?!’” one observer commented, capturing the sense of amazement that Fin’s reaction inspired.
Blue whales, weighing in at approximately 300,000 pounds, are the largest animals ever to live on Earth. In comparison, Fin, a Labrador, weighs around 60 pounds—making the blue whale about 5,000 times heavier. It’s easy to imagine how such a colossal creature could boggle the mind of a dog.
The comments on Biagini’s post were filled with humorous and heartfelt guesses about what Fin might have been thinking.
“This has got to be so confusing for a dog,” one commenter noted, highlighting the stark contrast between Fin and the massive whale.
Given Fin’s previous enthusiasm for jumping into the water, some viewers were concerned he might try to join the whale in its aquatic realm.
“The first time I took Fin on the boat, he was just a puppy and couldn’t resist leaping into the bay,” Biagini shared on Instagram.
This time, Biagini and Sackrison took extra care to ensure Fin’s safety. They secured him with two leashes and bungee cords to keep him on the boat, allowing him to enjoy the spectacle without any risk.
While we can only imagine the thoughts racing through Fin’s mind as he took in the sight of the enormous blue whale, it’s clear that he had a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“I bet in all existence, dogs were not able to see this,” one commenter reflected, underscoring the uniqueness of the moment.
