While Rachel and her husband were driving past Harbor Freight in Oklahoma, they spotted a lone pup standing in the pouring rain. Immediately, they pulled over and hurried to her side.
The couple felt a pang of heartbreak seeing the scared Pitbull left out in the cold. The dog looked around anxiously, clearly hoping that someone would notice her and provide a safe, warm haven.
Bringing Her To Safety
Upon learning from store workers that the dog had been waiting in the Harbor Freight parking lot for weeks, Rachel and her husband took immediate action. Believing she had been abandoned, the workers had been kind enough to feed her daily.
After securing a leash around the pup, later named Lucy, Rachel’s husband walked her to their car.
“I knew the moment we arrived in the parking lot that he wouldn’t leave her there. My husband was adamant about rescuing her,” Rachel recounted.
As soon as Lucy arrived at their home, she immediately bonded with Rachel’s husband, melting Rachel’s heart with their connection.
Both Rachel and her husband initially believed Lucy was lost and decided to foster her. Despite their efforts to locate her owners by posting photos on social media and checking for a microchip, no one came forward to claim her.
The Pack Welcomes Lucy
Rachel and her husband, who already cared for 13 dogs of their own, fostered Lucy through The Outsiders Rescue OK in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Initially frightened, Lucy’s foster parents comforted her in their laundry room, showering her with love and care.
The next day, they introduced Lucy to their yard, where she met Ellie, an alpha female in the pack. The two dogs sniffed each other and instantly formed a bond.
Lucy seamlessly integrated with the rest of the pack, as the compassionate dogs welcomed her with open arms. They not only accepted her but also taught her how to play and enjoy life within their loving environment.
Sweet Lucy Gets The Life Of Her Dreams
Since arriving at their home, Lucy has formed a deep bond with Rachel’s husband, becoming his devoted companion and “daddy’s girl.” They love snuggling together, and Lucy often prefers to be by his side.
“Lucy definitely prefers my husband. It’s like she knows he was the one who fought for her. That’s her person. If we’re sitting on the couch, she’s on his side,” Rachel shared.
Initially uncertain if Lucy would stay with them as they continued searching for her original family, Lucy seemed to understand all along that she had found her forever home.
“It’s like she knew she was home. All this time, we were trying to find her owners, just in case someone was looking for her. We didn’t know if she was going to stay. After about a month, I just knew she’s not leaving,” Rachel recalled.
From the moment Rachel and her husband embraced Lucy, they fell in love with her. After no one claimed her, they officially adopted her through Outsiders Rescue OK, ensuring she would never be without a loving family again.
Lucy thrives under their care, overcoming her initial fears to become a confident and happy dog. Regular updates on their Instagram showcase Lucy’s joy, from zoomies in the yard to peaceful naps. She truly lives the life of her dreams, basking in the love of her new family.
