One remarkable woman from Britain, Maisie Green, has discovered a unique way to support animals in need – by knitting cozy sweaters and blankets for them.
Over the years, Maisie has utilized her knitting skills to create hundreds of blankets and coats for dogs. Her generous donations have exclusively benefited the rescue dogs at the Dogs Trust Basildon shelter in the United Kingdom. In a heartwarming Instagram post by Dogs Trust, 89-year-old Maisie proudly stands beside her knitted creations for the shelter pets.
Expressing her passion for knitting and love for dogs, Maisie shared with Dogs Trust Basildon, “I love knitting, and I love dogs, so this combines both wonderfully! It takes me three days to knit a blanket and one day to knit a doggy coat.” Her dedication is evident as she knits in batches, and with the help of her family, she delivers her knitted treasures to the shelter three times a year.
Maisie finds a sense of purpose in her knitting projects, stating, “It keeps me busy, and often I like to knit while watching television. I’m delighted to be helping the four-legged residents at the center in some way.”
Dogs Trust Basildon acknowledged Maisie’s prolific efforts, revealing that by December 2018, she had knitted an impressive 450 items for the shelter animals, ensuring they stay warm and comfortable.
The dogs at the shelter wholeheartedly embrace the knitted items, displaying their joy and comfort. Maisie’s heartwarming contributions add a touch of love and coziness to the lives of these animals as they wait for their forever homes.
Dogs Trust, one of the U.K.’s largest dog rescue organizations, cares for over 16,000 abandoned and stray dogs annually, providing various ways for volunteers to contribute.
