Putol, a remarkable dog born with only her front legs, has shown the world that nothing can hold her back. Thanks to her loving owner, Danilo Codilego Jr., this six-year-old pup has mastered the art of walking and even running on her two front paws!

Living in Casiguran, Quezon City, Philippines, Putol—whose name means “chopped” in Tagalog—has become a beloved figure in her neighborhood, joyfully exploring the streets alongside her canine friends.

A Name with a Story

It’s hard to believe this adorable dog was given such a harsh name. Despite the circumstances, Putol’s spirit shines brightly, capturing the hearts of everyone around her.

Danilo, a local truck driver, first met Putol six years ago while working at a bakery. A coworker brought in four puppies for sale, but sadly, nobody wanted Putol because of her condition.

“They didn’t think she’d survive long,” Danilo shared. “But I was determined to care for her. We couldn’t imagine life without her.”

Overcoming Challenges

For the first two years, Putol struggled to walk, but with determination and practice, she learned to balance and navigate her world on her front legs. Now, she’s fiercely protective of Danilo and patrols their home like a true guardian.

“Putol barks at strangers and gets jealous when I show attention to other dogs,” Danilo said. “But she’s also the sweetest member of the community.”

Despite Danilo’s job requiring him to travel, Putol is well cared for by neighbors who love her. She enjoys the same food as everyone else and, unfortunately, cannot have puppies due to her health condition.

Caring for Putol: Essential Grooming Tips

Taking care of a dog’s coat is crucial for their overall health. Here are some tips to keep your furry friend looking their best:

  1. Regular Brushing: Brush your dog’s coat to remove loose fur, dirt, and prevent tangles. Long-haired breeds may need daily brushing, while short-haired ones might need it a few times a week.
  2. Bathing: Use dog-specific shampoo to keep their coat clean and fresh. The bathing frequency depends on your dog’s lifestyle—outdoor dogs may need more frequent baths.
  3. Trimming: Regular trims help prevent matting and keep your dog comfortable. Focus on areas prone to tangling, like behind the ears and under the legs.
  4. Balanced Diet: Feed your dog high-quality food rich in essential fatty acids and proteins. Omega-3s and omega-6s are especially beneficial for coat health.
  5. Hydration: Ensure your dog has access to fresh water at all times to maintain healthy skin and a shiny coat.
  6. Vet Check-ups: Regular veterinary visits are vital to monitor your dog’s health and address any skin or coat issues.
  7. Supplements: Your vet may recommend supplements like fish oil to improve skin and coat condition.
  8. Environmental Protection: Shield your dog from harsh weather conditions and check for ticks or debris after outdoor activities.

By following these steps, you can ensure your dog remains healthy and happy, just like Putol, who continues to inspire everyone with her courage and zest for life!
