Glen Powell, star of “Twisters,” might be the leading man on screen, but his rescue dog, Brisket, has become the real star of his life.
Brisket made waves when he joined Powell at the U.S. premiere of “Twisters” on July 11, quickly becoming an internet sensation.
Powell first introduced Brisket to his followers on Instagram in July 2023, describing him as “1.5 pounds of raw power.” At the time, Powell was looking for a little joy amidst a breakup. “It’s a ruff world out there, so I thought it was about time I hire a proper bodyguard,” Powell joked in his post. “I can’t wait to tackle all the adventures of life with this guy!”
Since then, Brisket has been a fixture on Powell’s Instagram and even has his own account, @hotbrisket.
The Adoption Story
During a July 17 appearance on TODAY, Powell shared that adopting Brisket was a pivotal decision made while he was dealing with personal struggles. “I remember sitting in a café in Enid, Oklahoma, and thinking, ‘You know what? I need to be a dog dad,’” Powell told Hoda Kotb. “He’s been the greatest addition to my life ever.”
Powell revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he found Brisket’s photo on a dog rescue Instagram account. Eager to adopt, he implored his friends to support his application. “I literally messaged, saying, ‘Please put in a good word for me,’” Powell recounted. “I sent them a heartbreakingly depressing video of why I needed this dog.”
After getting the green light, Powell made a special trip to Los Angeles amid filming “Twisters” to bring Brisket home.
Brisket on Set
Brisket quickly became a beloved presence on the “Twisters” set, endearing himself to the cast and crew. “I felt like a new father, barely sleeping while shooting,” Powell joked. “But Brisket would just hang out with everyone and nap in my chair.”
Powell even dubbed Brisket “the Lassie of his generation” in Instagram posts. According to Powell, Brisket was “the best special feature of ‘Twisters.’” He noted how the dog helped foster camaraderie among the cast and crew, saying, “There’s something wonderful about animals—they bring our walls down and help build friendships.”
Cover Star
Brisket’s charm extended to Entertainment Weekly’s “Twisters” cover shoot. Powell shared that Brisket made a surprise appearance on the cover when co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones was delayed due to a wardrobe issue. “I had Brisket with me, and they asked if we could do a camera test,” Powell said. “I just happened to have Brisket, and now he’s on the cover!”
Powell laughed as he recalled the serendipitous moment, “This was just me joking around with Brisket, and now he’s a cover star!”
In just one year, Brisket has proven to be more than just a pet—he’s a true companion and a source of joy for Glen Powell.
